The key thing is that in exchange of a sacrifice from you (typically a financial Donation that you send to Pundits families in India), Indian Pundits, full time devoted to this activity, do perform specific rituals in a very systematic and precise way. Although you are most welcome to attend to your own Yagna in person (minimum category recommended), you do not need to be in India physically to benefit from them, and you do not have to do anything else to benefit from them either.
